Who says keeping fit has to break the bank? By making the right choices about your fitness purchases, there are plenty of gym essentials you can pick up for less than twenty quid. Below we’ll share five of our favourite fitness accessories that will make your healthy regime better without making you feel like you’re shelling out too much.
#5: Skipping rope
Here’s one that almost everyone will know, and may already have lying around somewhere: a good old-fashioned skipping rope. It may seem simple, but a skipping rope is one of the essential bits of kit for many workout routines. There are plenty of skipping ropes out there, but be sure to check the reviews before making your final decision. With just a little research, you’ll definitely find a quality skipping rope for less than twenty notes.
#4: A range of resistance bands
If you’ve ever worked out from home, you’ll know that space can be at a premium. That’s why handy bits of equipment like resistance bands can come in so useful. It’s easy to find a collection of resistance bands for under £20, each one offering a different amount of resistance, usually measured in pounds (from 5lbs all the way to more than 150lbs). Resistance bands are great for improving upper-body strength, general muscle conditioning and tone.
#3: A quality water bottle
You may not realise it, but the water bottle you choose can be a pretty important decision. Not all water bottles are created equally, and in some extreme cases, badly manufactured bottles can actually be harmful to your health. That’s why you should track down a water bottle which is BPA-free (meaning it wasn’t created with chemical nasties), preferably made using sustainable sourcing, and proven to stand the test of time. A good quality water bottle should cost around £10, so do a little web research before you settle on your chosen bottle.
#2: Smartphone armband
If you run or jog as part of your cardio routine, you’ve probably had the experience of having to hold your smartphone at the same time. Not only does this take up a hand, it also causes the wires of your headphones to flail somewhat wildly as you go. The solution? A smartphone armband. Usually costing less than a tenner, these handy bits of kit strap around your upper arm and hold your smartphone securely in place no matter what you’re doing. The perfect way to enjoy music or audiobooks as you train!
#1: Sports earphones
Did we mention flailing earphone cables? Here’s another example of when this can happen. Regular headphones, especially earbuds like those that come with smartphones, are often the worst thing to wear when training. For under £20, it’s easy to find a reliable set of headphones that hook around the back of the ear, offering full stable support for each ear. This means that no matter how fast you run or how hard you train, your earphones will remain in place. That’s right: no more spending half your exercise session fiddling with your earphones or trying to find the perfect way to secure those headphone cables without the buds falling out.
