How to get motivated for exercise, even when you really don’t want to…

Finding the motivation to exercise can be extremely difficult, especially as the colder weather draws closer. However, these 5 tips can help give you the boost you’ve been looking for to escape the warmth and comfort of the sofa, and complete your goals.

Firstly, music can be an amazing motivator. Whether a tune that gets you on your feet and dancing, or lyrics that resonate, make a playlist that fills you with the energy and motivation that sometimes feels like it can’t be found.

Similarly, exercising with a friend can not only get you up and about, but can be a laugh as well! By inspiring each other and providing a needed push, a friendly face may make the task you have set a whole lot easier. Remember that exercise releases endorphins, so it’s more likely that if you get out the house and exercise, with a friend or not, you will have a better day and feel more positive.

Thirdly, fuel, fuel, fuel. Some of the time, your fatigue and resistance to the idea of exercise is more than mental attitude. If your body doesn’t have the fuel it needs, you will struggle to get far. Try a nut selection, a banana, or a Sativa Protein Shake, to give you a physical boost into action.

Reminding yourself of your goals, or making a list of them if you haven’t already, can be motivational. Even if training for a specific race or swim isn’t on it, just getting up and moving for five minutes is an achievement.

Remember more than anything, to be kind to yourself. Sometimes, the best thing is a rest, and sometimes it’s a brisk jog in the park. It is up to you to find a balance that keeps you fit, happy and motivated.
